LEBANON, Tenn. (January 17, 2005) – Permobil’s new C500 wheelchair was showcased in last night’s airing of ABC’s Extrem Makeover: Home Edition. The Emmy-nominated reality show highlighted the struggles of former college athlete, Rodney Anderson, whose dreams of playing professional basketball were shattered by a gunshot wound.
Prior to the home makeover, Anderson’s wheelchair allowed him access to only two of the rooms in his 1,424 square-foot house in South Central Los Angeles. With the new chair from Permobil, Anderson was able to freely move about his new house. Plus, the innovative Corpus™ seating system allowed Anderson to elevate himself and be face-to-face with his fiancé as they exchanged wedding vows at the end of the episode.
"We were all excited just to be part of something so very powerful," said Barry Steelman, Marketing Manager for Permobil, Inc. "The Andersons had sacrificed so much to take care of Rodney. Now, with a house that is custom built to accommodate his special needs, Rodney will be able to regain some of the independence that was taken from him."
The C500 is part of Permobil’s new Professional Rehab Series, which also includes the C300 and C400. These three power bases combine with a variety of seating systems to accommodate mobility and seating needs from simple to complex.
Permobil, Inc. is a world leader in the production of innovative power mobility systems featuring multiple power base options with integrated power seating options.
