LEBANON, Tenn. (October 28, 2008) – Permobil today announced the launch of its latest pediatric power wheelchair—the K450 MX—which is aimed at increasing the user’s independence throughout childhood.
With rear-wheel drive and an all-wheel suspension system, the K450 MX provides a smooth ride for children, whether they are cruising the halls at school or heading outside for an off-road adventure. The power seat-to-floor function allows children to get down on the ground and interact with others their own age, be it play time or story time. The seat-to-floor height ranges from 3” to 26,” making it easy for children to sit at a table, to reach lower bookshelves or even to help care for a favorite pet.
Other notable features of the K450 MX include:
- Overall design and colors that appeal to children—Black Onyx, Chili Pepper Red, Platinum Silver, Popstar Pink, Titan Blue and Xtreme Yellow
- Increase weight capacity to 125 lbs., which allows the chair to be used by smaller adults as well
- Flat-free drive tires for reduced maintenance
- Standard R-Net electronics
- Modular seating system that comes with a free growth kit
- Center mount adjustable legrests
- Power seat functions: seat elevator, seat-to-floor and optional 45° tilt
“We feel it is important for pediatric wheelchair users to be able to share everyday childhood experiences with their peers, and the K450 MX gives them the independence to do just that,” said Amy Meyer, Permobil Pediatric and Standing Specialist. “With the K450 MX, users can literally get down on the level of other children and get in and out of their chair on their own, and that is a huge boost for a child’s confidence and self-esteem.”
