Permobil takes further steps towards a sustainable business 

Permobil has taken several initiatives to meet its new long-term sustainability targets. In many areas, the company is breaking new ground, notably working to understand the impact Permobil products have on people’s quality of life.

The launch of Permobil’s first comprehensive sustainability report details their strategy to operating a sustainable and responsible business, and the performance so far.

“At Permobil, we Innovate for Individuals, but it’s equally important that we strive to innovate for all our stakeholders. We have a long-term commitment to make things better for our users, employees, the environment, and businesses and communities we’re connected to,” said Jonas Cederhage, EVP Supply Chain and responsible for sustainability at Permobil Group.

Permobil’s first annual sustainability report is being released today and sets out the long-term targets for each of the seven focus areas as well as progress made on the journey so far. It includes the personal stories of two Permobil wheelchair users. The stories show their remarkable character and are a great representation of the thousands of similar user stories from around the world.

What was done in 2021

  • Mobility-related Quality of Life 7D* (MobQol-7D) pilot study conducted with 665 power wheelchair users to assess the impact of mobility aids.
  • 16% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions  compared to 2018 baseline.
  • Focus on talent management and reviewing our workplace accessibility to make Permobil an even more inclusive and accessible workplace.
  • Continued focus on Responsible Sourcing. Now 98% of our supplier spend is covered by the Supplier Code of Conduct or Terms & Conditions.

“There is a lot for everyone at Permobil to be proud of as we are making good progress against our targets.

As we get this right, not only will we make things better for those who use our products, we will bring the rest of the industry with us,” added Jonas.

Permobil’s long-term sustainability targets

By 2030, Permobil aims to have:

  • Reduced Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions by 70% against the 2018 baseline
  • Reduce Scope 3 emissions by 20%, against the 2019 baseline
  • Gender balance in the workforce of female/male 40/60 by 2030​
  • By 2030, 8 out of 10 employees feel Permobil is an inclusive company based on the annual employee survey ​
  • Zero lost time accidents​
  • Zero claims on product quality
  • 90% of all employees annually trained on the Code of Conduct
  • 98% of supplier spend covered by the Supplier Code of Conduct
  • 100% high-risk and​ 20% medium-risk suppliers screened​
  • Meaningful targets are in development for quality of life of users and workplace accessibility focus areas

*Mobility-related Quality of Life 7D (MobQol-7D) is a new and innovative outcome measure developed by University of Bangor in Wales.
