Meet John

John, a 69-year-old Army veteran and retired postal worker, resides in an assisted living facility due to progressive health challenges stemming from Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. His condition includes scoliosis, cervical contractures, thoracic kyphosis, severe ataxia, and spasticity, which severely limit his mobility and comfort.

Prior to intervention, John relied on a basic manual wheelchair with minimal support, resulting in poor posture, pain, and limited ability to self-propel or participate in daily activities. He required maximum assistance for transfers and was at high risk for pressure injuries due to immobility and postural asymmetries. His seating setup did not provide adequate support for his head, trunk, or pelvis, further restricting his reach, comfort, and social engagement.

Following the introduction of the PDG Bentley LT-R tilt-in-space wheelchair, paired with the Comfort Acta-Back, Comfort M2 Anti-Thrust cushion, and BodiLink Head Support, John experienced significant improvements in posture, comfort, and function. The new system allowed for better pressure management, increased sitting tolerance, and easier transfers, while also enhancing his ability to reach and interact with his environment.

Psycho-socially, John became more engaged in group activities and reported less discomfort and improved mood. The intervention not only addressed his physical needs but also restored a sense of independence and dignity, enabling him to participate more fully in his community and daily life.
