A Guideline for Introducing Powered Mobility to Infants and Toddlers

Explorer Mini is adjusted for a new rider
Permobil is proud to present the work of Heather Feldner, Teresa Plummer, & Alyson Hendry.  This is an interdisciplinary guideline based on peer-reviewed literature and validated consensus statements from over 40 clinicians and caregivers that provides critical strategies and suggestions for clinicians working with powered mobility.  Â
"A Guideline for Introducing Powered Mobility to Infants and Toddlers" can serve as an evidence-based resource for all team members involved in the provision of assistive technology and powered mobility. The incorporation of language, communication, physical, social and somatosensory strategies provide a training approach founded on evidence and then supported by clinical expertise. Â
Please pay additional attention to the appendices of the guideline, which offer practical tips for early intervention with power mobility. This guideline may serve as a clinical roadmap for introducing "On Time" power mobility to pre-verbal and non-verbal, premotor infants with a unique approach at directing training efforts.Â
