Permobil Launches M4 Nexa: Compact Power Mobility without Compromise

Permobil today announced the launch of the M4 Nexa, an all-new compact mid-wheel power wheelchair designed to accommodate a broader range of users, including smaller individuals, while delivering exceptional maneuverability, intelligent connectivity, and greater access to everyday life without compromising the advanced seating functions they depend on.

M4 Nexa is designed to bring together the access users need with the performance and clinical capabilities they require. Small statured users, adolescent through adult, of power wheelchairs have historically been asked to compromise between fit and functionality. The M4 Nexa changes that paradigm. As the only compact power wheelchair to deliver the full range of power seating functions, including anterior tilt, tilt, recline, elevating leg rests, and seat elevation, at seat widths as small as 12 inches / 30 cm, the M4 Nexa truly enables Compact without Compromise.

Its compact base has a turning radius that is consistent with the tightest in the category making navigating tight spaces easier, from crowded rooms and narrow hallways to bathrooms and vehicles. Compact front casters allow the footplates to tuck beneath the chair, helping users get closer to tables, work surfaces, access vehicles, and complete transfers. Additionally, the M4 Nexa is the only chair in its class to provide a 15-inch / 38 cm seat to floor height with anterior tilt, enabling more level transfers and broader access to standard height tables. With seat depths from 10 to 22 inches / 25 to 56 cm in a single seating system, the M4 Nexa offers the broadest depth range in the category. Finally, the M4 Nexa incorporates Permobil Connect, the only “always on” connectivity platform in the category, enabling battery and range visibility, fault alerts before the chair stops, personalization, and a host of other empowering capabilities. 

Developed in close collaboration with users, clinicians, providers, and engineers, it brings together the new patent-pending Nexa Seating System and advanced adjustability to help people to live more independently.

A compact chair without the usual compromises

Unlike other compact power chairs that typically trade size for seating capability, M4 Nexa offers the full range of power seat functions for seat sizes down to a 12-inch / 30 cm seat width.  Seating depths start at just 10 inches / 25 cm allow the platform to accommodate smaller users without giving up advanced positioning capabilities.

M4 Nexa combines advanced seating functionality with a seat-to-floor height as low as 15 inches / 39 cm, helping support transfers and improving access to everyday environments.

Introducing the Nexa Seating System: moves with your body, not against it

A key innovation in M4 Nexa is the new Nexa Seating System, a biomechanically designed seating solution created to support posture, stability, and positioning throughout powered seating movements.

The system is designed around the body’s natural pivot points, helping the seating system move with the user and reduce unwanted displacement during powered positioning. Its dynamic pivot design aligns the rotation axis with the body’s anatomical pivot points, while full seat-depth contact and body-aligned arm supports help maintain support and stability across a range of seating positions. Measured against Permobil’s industry-recognized Corpus seating system, the Nexa Seating System provides 25-50% less user movement during powered positioning.

Mobility needs can change over time. M4 Nexa was designed with an adjustable and modular seating architecture that can adapt as users’ needs evolve.

The seating system enables adjustment of seat width, seat depth, foot supports, and arm supports using just two Allen keys, with most adjustments possible while the user remains seated. Offering seat widths from 12 to 22 inches / 30 to 56 cm, and the broadest range of seat depths on a compact power wheelchair, from 10 to 22 inches / 25 to 56 cm, the M4 Nexa accommodates the widest range of users, including smaller individuals and those whose needs may change over time.

Integration with Permobil’s Comfort and ROHO seating portfolio, combined with compatibility across a wide range of positioning components, gives flexibility to tailor and refine each setup.

M4 Nexa also features simplified maintenance, protected cabling, and a durable closed design that supports long-term serviceability, refurbishment, and reconfiguration.

Connected mobility from day one

The M4 Nexa is also Permobil's latest step toward a more connected mobility experience.

Every chair is factory-connected through Permobil Connect, enabling proactive service support, remote diagnostics, configuration, and troubleshooting from day one. Users also gain access to the MyPermobil app, providing battery insights, range estimates, usage information, seating behavior data, and chair personalization options.

For providers, fleet management tools support remote troubleshooting and help improve operational efficiency across connected chair populations.

Availability

M4 Nexa will be introduced in phases across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas beginning November 1, 2026.

In EMEA, the initial launch includes Germany, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, with additional European and distributor markets to follow throughout 2027. In APAC, M4 Nexa will launch in Australia on November 1, 2026, followed by New Zealand in the first quarter of 2027 and Japan in late 2027, subject to regulatory approval.

In the Americas, M4 Nexa is expected to become available through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) following anticipated FDA 510(k) clearance in early October 2026. Full commercial availability in the United States and Canada is planned for January 2027, subject to regulatory and market access requirements.
